Mission
Our mission, as a nonprofit arts organization, is to
foster the growth and appreciation of classical ballet through development of
both professional artists and a diverse audience and to provide a wide range of
experiences for professional dancers, instructors, students and audiences that
transcends socio-economic barriers and permits all participants to grow to their
full potential.
Excellence
John F. Kennedy Center for the Arts in Washington D.C. has
awarded recognition to Continental Ballet Company and placed them on their
Roster of Approved Artists.
Patronage
Performing such classics as the Nutcracker, Paquita, Cinderella and Coppelia, we have presented over 90 formal performances to 90,000 people statewide. We have reached over 30,000 K -12 children through school residencies and outreach activities. We have performed for uncounted audiences through public events such as Arts in the Parks and the Minneapolis Sommerfest.
History
Established in 1988 by Riet Velthuisen, a former dancer with the Dutch National Ballet, the Continental Ballet Company presents professional classical ballet performances and outreach programs in the suburban Twin Cities area and throughout Minnesota. The Company's mission is to provide opportunities for children and families to experience the art of classical ballet through performances, classes and community activities. Continental Ballet Company was founded on the belief that dance as an art is an exquisite and valuable discipline to be fostered and shared with our community.
